Be Rooted In Jesus

Posted by Wes Schaeffer | September 7, 2021

From today’s reading...

So then, as you received Jesus as Lord and Christ, now live your lives in him, be rooted in him and built up on him, held firm by the faith you have been taught, and overflowing with thanksgiving. Make sure that no one captivates you with the empty lure of a 'philosophy' of the kind that human beings hand on, based on the principles of this world and not on Christ.”
Colossians 2:6-8

How deep are your roots? Where are they planted? (You do have roots, right?)

Sadly, many do not have roots, or the roots they do have are thin, shallow, and therefore, weak.

Without a strong foundation, you will be captivated by the empty philosophies of the world.

You can tell who those with weak roots are by their wishy-washy, flip-floppy lives.

One day they’re on fire for the Lord.

Then they bounce around from one church to another for flimsy reasons.

Then they’re doubting/questioning/agnostic.

Then they’re atheists.

Then they are spiritual but not religious.

Then they’re saved thanks to the hip new church next to the massage parlor who boasts a great sound system, a hip young pastor, and a concession stand in the lobby.

And the best part is, they don’t hassle you for not regularly attending because, you know, YOLO.

Sundays are for nursing hangovers, champagne brunch, and football.

Once you realize the plethora of tempting philosophies out there and how damaging they can be, you’ll recognize the limited nature of YOLO, as it should be YOLOAF—you only live once and forever.

When you understand that how you choose to live this one life you’ve been given here sets the tone for how you’ll live in eternity, you’ll give thanks for the True faith and gladly dig your roots deeply in Jesus as Lord and Christ, which is the only way to...

Stay the course.
Keep the faith.
Endure.

Now go sell something.
