Be Upright and Religious To Persevere

Posted by Wes Schaeffer | September 17, 2021

From today’s reading...

But, as someone dedicated to God, avoid all that. You must aim to be upright and religious, filled with faith and love, perseverance and gentleness.” 1 Timothy 6:11

“Avoid all what?” you might be asking.

Avoid loving money and allowing the pursuit of it to cause you to leave your faith and lose your soul.

How do you get good at anything? You practice it, which means claiming to be “spiritual but not religious” is a cop-out.

You say that to justify being lazy, sleeping in, withdrawing, not interacting with your community, and presenting yourself as a sinner in need of God’s love and redemption, i.e., making yourself vulnerable.

But in your vulnerability, you connect at a deeper level with other struggling sinners, and we know, “For where two or three meet in my name, I am there among them” (Matthew 18:20).

And the only way to show you are full of love is to walk in faith with others and show them your love while receiving theirs.

So gather. Be spiritual AND religious, which is the only way to persevere,...

Stay the course.
Keep the faith.
Endure.

Now go sell something.
