Faith Without Substance?

Written by Wes Schaeffer | September 16, 2022

From today’s reading...

…and if Christ has not been raised, then our preaching is without substance, and so is your faith.” 1 Corinthians 15:14

Christianity is quite simple.

We believe that Jesus is the Son of God.

We believe that He was born, walked the earth, was crucified, died, buried, and rose from the dead.

There is ample evidence that people worshipped Him as He walked the earth, i.e., the leper in Matthew 8:2, the official in Matthew 9:18 who asked Jesus to raise his daughter from the dead, the men in the boat in the storm in Matthew 14:33, and many more.

These people were ignorant, superstitious, weak, or correct.

Likewise, there is ample evidence that a whole lot of people saw Jesus after He was crucified, died, and was buried.

Paul provides a long list of witnesses in 1 Corinthians 15:3-8, while Peter mentions three times in Acts, chapters 2, 3, and 10, that there were witnesses who saw the resurrected Christ.

Finally, note how many of the early followers of “The Way” gave their lives for their faith and how many continue to do so today.

I’ll fight you tooth and nail that bourbon is to be sipped neat, Miracle Whip is not mayonnaise, and that Nick Saban owes his fame and fortune to LSU…but I won’t die for those beliefs.

Think about what you’d die for, then consider how many have died for Christ, who died for us, and what that really means.

Knowing He is the Son of God and  appreciating what He did for you is the only way to...

Stay the course.
Keep the faith.
Endure.
