You Are My Rock. Guide Me!

Written by Wes Schaeffer | September 15, 2022

From today’s reading...

You are my rock, my rampart; true to your name, lead me and guide me!” Psalm 31:3

People love to pooh-pooh the Catholic Church for a myriad of reasons, especially the tripe that the Church is comprised of a bunch of old white men who are stuck in the past and resistant to change.

The problem with most of those who say this is that they change merely for the sake of change.

Because they are bored.

Because they have no tradition.

Because they have no roots, no history, no foundation of rock.

“But Wes, I belong to a Bible-believin’ church. My pastor has 10,000 subscribers on YouTube and plays the drums and preaches on the same three chapters of the Bible every Sunday, and he even came out with his own Bible. I know because I paid $100 for a signed, leather-bound edition of it. And his daddy was a preacher man. He found God in prison. So we have a deep tradition. Yeah, we have acoustic guitars and smoke and laser lights at our services, but we have to appeal to a new generation, so we made those changes to keep everyone happy. But the Holy Spirit told me this church is the truth, and we’re doing some good because we don’t have to report up 10 levels of hierarchy to make sure we’re doing the right things. We just pray about it for a solid 20-30 seconds, and our little drummer boy pastor makes the call. It’s amazing to see the Holy Spirit move in him.”

The Lord does work in mysterious ways.

There are some fine men and women playing drums and  preaching the Good News and saving souls.

I just prefer to get my instruction from the One True Rock, and I’m not talking about Dwayne Johnson because that’s the only way to...

Stay the course.
Keep the faith.
Endure.

Now go sell something.
