The Transfiguration

From today’s reading...

Six days later, Jesus took with him Peter and James and John and led them up a high mountain on their own by themselves. There in their presence he was transfigured: his clothes became brilliantly white, whiter than any earthly bleacher could make them. Elijah appeared to them with Moses; and they were talking to Jesus.” Mark 9:2-4

Yesterday, we read in Matthew 16 how Jesus handed Peter the keys to the kingdom…and then called Peter Satan just a few verses later.

Mark 8 gives a much more condensed version of the events at Caesarea Philippi, but Mark’s telling coincides with Peter declaring Jesus as “the Christ, the Son of the living God,”…and Jesus calling Peter Satan!

Today, we turn the page and see Jesus leading and guiding His “first among equal” apostles off to a special place, a secluded place, “up a high mountain.”

Clearly, Jesus has forgiven Peter for his well-intentioned but ignorant statements in the previous chapter as He gives the three Apostles an up close and personal glimpse of His power.

Jesus shows them that there is life after death via His conversation with Elijah and Moses, and He shows His beloved Apostles the joy and wonder that awaits all who...

Stay the course.
Keep the faith.
Endure.

Now go sell something.
