The Pain of Being Vain

Written by Wes Schaeffer | August 27, 2017

From today’s reading...

I will thrust you from your office
and pull you down from your station...
I will clothe (Eliakim) with your robe,
and gird him with your sash,
and give over to him your authority.”

When you forget your roots;
When you get too big for your britches;
When you turn your back on those who got you to where you are in life;
Don’t be surprised if you fall and fall hard.

Eliakim was handed the key to the House of David because Shebna couldn’t follow instructions.

“But Wes, we have satellites and radar and telescopes and computers. We’re smarter and wiser now. We know things they didn’t know 3,000 years ago. We must follow new instructions. We must make our own new instructions because we are so much wiser today.”

Yeah. Let me know how that works out for you.

Pride goes before disaster,
and a haughty spirit before a fall.”

Show your wisdom by swallowing your pride and sticking to the plan.

Sure, you may know of a shortcut or a more scenic route but that’s not the map you’ve been given by the Map Maker Himself.

All you and I have to do is...

Stay the course.
Keep the faith.
Endure.
