Elisha Didn’t Give a Rolex

Posted by Wes Schaeffer | July 2, 2017

From today’s reading...

This time next year you will be fondling a baby son."

In 2 Kings Elisha gives the gift of life to a couple who were without a son but had shown kindness to him in his travels.

They went out of their way to make room for him and to make him feel welcomed.

Elisha didn't give them Rolexes or a private jet or a big TV or even an iPad.

He didn't give them a vacation in Paris or a side-by-side refrigerator or granite countertops.

He gave them a physical, visible manifestation of their love for one another.

He gave them new life.

He gave them someone to love.

He gave them someone to fuss over, worry about, potty train, lose sleep over, and brag about.

He gave them someone to carry on their family name, their legacy.

What is your legacy?

What will you be fondling and nurturing a year from now?

A grudge? An excuse? A hangover? Another 10 pounds? A faded picture of a fading dream?

Or will you love enough, care enough, trust enough in God to bear fruit and multiply?

In this life, getting older is not an option, but growth is.

How will you mark your growth one year from today, July 2, 2018?

Stay the course.
Keep the faith.
Endure.

P.S. Today's reading also discussed picking up your cross. So do not seek the easy path to leaving your legacy. Seek the endurance to stay the course.

And remember that you are not supposed to carry your cross alone.
