He Comes To Bring a Sword

Posted by Wes Schaeffer | July 12, 2021

From today’s reading...

‘Do not suppose that I have come to bring peace to the earth: it is not peace I have come to bring, but a sword. For I have come to set son against father, daughter against mother, daughter-in-law against mother-in-law; a person’s enemies will be the members of his own household.’” Matthew 10:34-36

Just two days ago, Matthew was quoting Jesus saying the same thing; “‘Brother will betray brother to death, and a father his child; children will come forward against their parents and have them put to death.’” Matthew 10:21

So much for delivering a sugar-coated message from the prosperity gospel movement, huh? “Hold up ya Bible…tilt your head back…catch the grapes and Skittles dropped into ya mouths from unicorns riding rainbows…ya best times are right around the corner…but only if ya dig deep…and make my Ferrari payment…then you, too, can have a Ferrari. Can I get an Amen?!!”

Cain killed Abel out of jealousy and envy. Joseph was sold into slavery out of jealousy and envy. Civil wars happen around the world on a regular basis, and they are bitter and cruel because we know how to hurt those with whom we’ve broken bread.

Today, households are divided over COVID and Trump, transgender athletes and gay “marriage,” and even late-term abortion. Heck, just yesterday, I saw a guy pushing to replace statues of Robert E. Lee with George Floyd. (Screenshot attached as proof.)

You can’t fix stupid, but you may have to fight it. To ensure you’re on the winning side,...

Stay the course.
Keep the faith.
Endure.

Now go sell something.
