Your Prayers Find Favor

Written by Wes Schaeffer | June 7, 2023

From today’s reading...

This time the prayer of each of them found favour before the glory of God,…” Tobit 3:16

Today’s Gospel reading comes from Mark 12, which shares the story of the Sadducees attempting to trap Jesus as they question him about the woman who married seven brothers, all of whom died, thus leaving her childless.

That story comes from Tobit 3, which is an unknown book for Protestants, who are quick to point out Revelation 22:18 to me, “This is my solemn attestation to all who hear the prophecies in this book: if anyone adds anything to them, God will add to him every plague mentioned in the book;”

The crazy thing is, as in most discussions/debates/arguments/fights over the meaning of various verses in the Bible, the refutation of a cherry-picked verse is usually just before or just after the oh-so-favorite verse of the smug.

Case in point, Revelation 22:19, “if anyone cuts anything out of the prophecies in this book, God will cut off his share of the tree of life and of the holy city, which are described in the book.”

So maybe Catholics added Tobit and should suffer every plague of the Bible.

However, Protestants accept Matthew 12, which points to Tobit, so maybe they cut out God’s Word and are at risk of being cut off from God.

To find the answer, be like Tobit and Sarah, and pray to God in good times and in bad so your prayers can find His favor, which is the only way to...

Stay the course.
Keep the faith.
Endure.
