Simon Peter answered, ‘Lord, to whom shall we go? You have the message of eternal life, and we believe; we have come to know that you are the Holy One of God.’” John 6:68-69
God bless Peter.
Maybe he spoke from wisdom.
Maybe he spoke from courage.
Maybe he spoke out of fear.
But he is the first among equals, as determined by Jesus, Himself, and he did speak up when asked.
If Peter were cast for the movie Full Metal Jacket, Pete would be Private Joker: “He’s silly and he’s ignorant, but he’s got guts. And guts is enough.”
Of course, we know that Peter did not have quite as much courage and bravado as he proclaimed early on, but once he was filled with the Holy Spirit, he earned his position as the first pope, so speak like Peter did today, and live as Peter did after the Resurrection, which is the only way to...
