To Be Friends, Do What He Commands

Posted by Wes Schaeffer | May 20, 2022

From today’s reading...

You are my friends, if you do what I command you.” John 15:14

To be friends with Jesus, you must follow Him, which requires action because love is a verb, as we see in 1 John 3:18, “Children, our love must be not just words or mere talk, but something active and genuine.”

James delivers a similar message: “You see now that it is by deeds, and not only by believing, that someone is justified” (James 2:24).

So enough with this “private and personal” relationship with Jesus to justify you sleeping in on weekends and hiding from society.

Jesus commands us to love Him and love like Him, which means helping the poor and comforting the downtrodden, and spreading His Good News.

You can’t do that alone.

You can’t do that in private.

You need to get out of your comfort zone, out of your man cave, out of your she-shed, and engage with your community, which is the only way to...

Stay the course.
Keep the faith.
Endure.

Now go sell something.
