Peter Raised Tabitha

From today’s reading...

Peter sent everyone out of the room and knelt down and prayed. Then he turned to the dead woman and said, ‘Tabitha, stand up.’ She opened her eyes, looked at Peter and sat up.” Acts 9:40

Only four people, besides Jesus, raised someone from the dead in the Bible, with two of them in the Old Testament, Elijah and Elisha, and two in the New Testament, Peter and Paul.

But Peter’s story closely resembles that of Jesus and Lazarus because Peter was “the first among equals.”

Peter walked on water.

Peter was handed the keys to the kingdom.

Peter was given a new name Cephas or Kepha by Jesus, which is “Rock” in Aramaic, because, like Abraham, Sarah, and Israel, he had a new calling, which is why he was able to raise Tabitha from the dead, and why we look to him for inspiration to...
