David Seized By God's Spirit

Posted by Wes Schaeffer | March 19, 2023

From today’s reading...

At this, Samuel took the horn of oil and anointed him, surrounded by his brothers; and the spirit of Yahweh seized on David from that day onwards. Samuel, for his part, set off and went to Ramah.” 1 Samuel 16:13

After being chosen by God and anointed by His messenger and receiving the spirit of God, David still did some bad things.

Was God’s spirit insufficient to keep David from “backsliding,” as some evangelicals tend to claim about their brothers and sisters?

Was David not “saved” at the moment Samuel anointed him?

Or did David have to continue working out his salvation “in fear and trembling” (Philippians 2:12) like the rest of us?

Be like David.

It’s the only way to...

Stay the course.
Keep the faith.
Endure.
