Simon Humbled Himself Before Jesus

Posted by Wes Schaeffer | February 6, 2022

From today’s reading...

When Simon Peter saw this he fell at the knees of Jesus saying, ‘Leave me, Lord; I am a sinful man.’” Luke 5:8

Compare Simon Peter’s reaction to being called by name by Jesus to the members of a celebrity’s entourage or a snooty girlfriend who flaunts her badge to everyone within shouting distance as she proudly proclaims, “I’m with the band.”

Now compare Simon Peter’s reaction to being called by name by Jesus to the members of your church (and yourself?), i.e., those with the bumper sticker that reads, “In case of the rapture, this car will be unmanned.”

This reminds me of the quote by Bertrand Russell, “The whole problem with the world is that fools and fanatics are always so certain of themselves, and wiser people so full of doubts.”

Please don’t be a fool.

Please don’t think you’re good to go with God.

Please follow Paul’s advice in Philippians 1:12, “So, my dear friends, you have always been obedient; your obedience must not be limited to times when I am present. Now that I am absent it must be more in evidence, so work out your salvation in fear and trembling.”

Because falling on your face in the presence of God and begging for His mercy is the only way to...

Stay the course.
Keep the faith.
Endure.

Now go sell something.
