From today’s reading...
Since all the children share the same human nature, he too shared equally in it, so that by his death he could set aside him who held the power of death, namely the devil, and set free all those who had been held in slavery all their lives by the fear of death.” Hebrews 2:14-15
I’m tempted to start today’s contemplation with “we are funny creatures,” but that is an incorrect statement.
We are gullible creatures.
We are selfish creatures.
We are vain, weak, pleasure-seeking creatures, which is what the devil wants.
You could even say he created it.
He certainly led the way to our fallen state.
In seeking pleasure over pain, comfort over discomfort, we lie to ourselves.
We ignore the cold hard Truth that there is only one Truth.
You see it daily when people talk about, “I’m speaking my truth.”
If someone said, “I’m doing my algebra,” we’d call them crazy and give them an F on their algebra test, but we allow this “my truth” nonsense.
The Truth is the price to pay for sin is pain, discomfort, disease, and finally death, which is why the Israelites were constantly bringing burnt offerings to the Lord in the form of bulls, lambs, birds, etc.
However, those sacrifices were insufficient because how can we truly make amends with our Creator when we have ignored Him?
An imperfect creature cannot present an imperfect sacrifice to bring them to perfection.
That is why we would be forever trapped, forever slaves to the devil if God Himself, did not provide the perfect sacrifice as the means and the conduit to our freedom.
Ponder that today.

Stay the course.
Keep the faith.
Endure.
