Mary's Soul Was Pierced

Posted by Wes Schaeffer | February 2, 2022

From today’s reading...

Simeon blessed them and said to Mary his mother, ‘Look, he is destined for the fall and for the rise of many in Israel, destined to be a sign that is opposed-and a sword will pierce your soul too -- so that the secret thoughts of many may be laid bare.’” Luke 2:34-35

It is horrible for a parent to lose a child.

Even worse is for a parent to see their child framed and murdered.

And as bad it is for a father, it’s even worse for a mother due to the unique, irreplaceable bond a mother has for that human she grew in her body, suckled to life, and nurtured, formed, corrected, and loved to adulthood.

Still worse than that is for a mother to know ahead of time that this was what the future held for her child.

Finally, what is the most horrible thing of all is to see your neighbors, your favorite shopkeeper, and the people you sit next to in the synagogue each week rise up against your child, attack Him, and kill Him when you’ve known from the moment of conception who He is.

The importance, the value, and the pain of Mary cannot be overstated.

If you are struggling on your journey, pray to Mary.

She knows how to...

Stay the course.
Keep the faith.
Endure.

Now go sell something.
