The Blessings of Honoring Your Father and Mother

Posted by Wes Schaeffer | December 30, 2022

From today’s reading...

Long life comes to anyone who honours a father, whoever obeys the Lord makes a mother happy.” Sirach 3:6

Is family important?

If so, why?

Does a family need a father and a mother?

We’ve been told for years that “love is love” by kind, loving, tolerant, open-minded activists, celebrities, Hollywood elites, Big Pharma, politicians, and media giants, and we know their wisdom is endless, their love boundless, and their track records are spotless.

So why doesn’t the Bible discuss Mark and his four dads or John and his three moms?

I know why.

It’s an old, dead book steeped in patriarchy meant to oppress women, the poor, and people of color because religion is the opioid of the illiterate masses.

After all, having three dads, four step-dads, seven ex-step-dads, and 22 grandparents is such a blessing. It warms the heart.

The children love getting presents from all of them and don’t mind their biological parents (or surrogates or sperm donors) binge drinking during the holidays and bad-mouthing all twelve of their exes until they pass out on the living room floor.

Everyone who’s anyone knows the Bible is outdated, contradicts itself, and should be replaced with the “Chicken Soup For The Soul” series or whatever is on Oprah’s reading list this week because “God” is an invisible, magical friend in the sky that only the superstitious and gullible cling to.

Yet, something curious seems to happen to those who do follow the ancient wisdom and  guidance of the Bible: they find meaning in their lives; they persevere adversities and hardships; they grow and thrive more readily; they smile; they give of their time, talents, and treasures; they make the lives of those around them better.

Interesting, huh?

Stay the course.
Keep the faith.
Endure.

Market like you mean it. Now go sell something.
