The Word of Life Is Our Theme

Written by Wes Schaeffer | December 27, 2021

From today’s reading...

Something which has existed since the beginning, which we have heard, which we have seen with our own eyes, which we have watched and touched with our own hands, the Word of life -- this is our theme.”
1 John 1:1

In other words, God is John’s theme and that of the apostles and disciples.

Jesus is the Word made flesh. John knows It/He has existed since the beginning.

Our world, our universe, and our existence have been spoken into being.

And being formed in the likeness and image of God means we have the power to speak worlds into existence.

Are you speaking a world of scarcity, pain, lack, shame, and suffering into existence, or are you speaking a world of joy, fulfillment, and meaning into existence?

Don’t get me wrong.

I’m not saying life is all unicorns and lollipops.

Bad things happen in this world.

We’re surrounded by tragedies, suffering, calamities, and malevolence.

You, or someone close to you, has either overcome a severe illness, is seriously ill now, or will become so in the next few years.

Life is hard, but that does not mean it lacks meaning because of its difficulties.

It’s quite the opposite.

In the challenges and the hardships are found your purpose.

By facing, studying, and looking deeply into and through that which you most fear is where you will find what you are looking for and need.

The Word did not become flesh to take away your suffering.

The Word became flesh to show you how to find meaning in your suffering.

Walk Jesus’s walk.

Willingly take up your cross so that others might have an easier go of it because doing so is the only way to...

Stay the course.
Keep the faith.
Endure.

Now go sell something.
