From today’s reading...
The sceptre shall not pass from Judah, nor the ruler’s staff from between his feet, until tribute be brought him and the peoples render him obedience.” Genesis 49:10
Judah was a sinner, and a hypocrite who raised two evil, selfish sons, both put to death by the Lord because of their wicked ways.
Yet from Judah’s lineage came King David and “Joseph the husband of Mary; of her was born Jesus who is called Christ” (Matthew 1:16b).
It’s because Judah repented and received great blessings from his father, Jacob, that great things came from him.
