The Son of Man Will Suffer Similarly

From today’s reading...

‘however, I tell you that Elijah has come already and they did not recognise him but treated him as they pleased; and the Son of man will suffer similarly at their hands.’” Matthew 17:12

Elijah was a BEAST!

He raised the widow’s son from the dead in 1 Kings 17, He mocked the 450 prophets of Baal, then slaughtered them when they were proven to be idolatrous charlatans, and he brought rain.

Yet, he was still threatened by Jezebel because it’s what greedy, selfish, high-and-mighty people in power do when they are forced to look in a mirror.

Being a pious, well-read, and holy Rabbi, Jesus knew the story of Elijah well (including the part of how Elijah was taken to heaven in 2 Kings 2:11, but the people weren’t ready for that reminder, yet.)

Thus today’s verse.

Jesus was going on record so His followers at the time, as well as you and I, could start to piece things together for the next 2,000+ years and grow in faith, hope, and love, which is the only way to...

Stay the course.
Keep the faith.
Endure.
