John Is Great...But He's Nobody

Written by Wes Schaeffer | December 10, 2021

From today’s reading...

‘In truth I tell you, of all the children born to women, there has never been anyone greater than John the Baptist; yet the least in the kingdom of Heaven is greater than he.’” Matthew 11:11

This is akin to saying, “Your son is a great high school quarterback, but he’s a big fish in a small pond.

Look way up at the NFL. As good as your son is, he’s not as good as the worst NFL.”

Harsh?

Maybe.

True?

Yes…but…(why is there always a “but?”) obviously, this 17-year-old QB isn’t done growing, learning, and progressing.

Maybe he’ll be the greatest QB the NFL has ever seen. But right now, he’s not. He’s merely a great high school QB.

Now, does this mean that he lacks talent? Of course not.

Does it mean he has wasted his time exercising, studying game film, and practicing? Nope.

Does it mean he is a bad person? Get out of here with that!

It means he has a long way to go and a lot of growing up to do, but the juice is worth the squeeze. Just being counted among the fold of great athletes is a compliment.

Being recruited to play in college is incredible.

Being drafted to play in the NFL is impressive.

Playing in the NFL is a dream come true.

Being counted as one of the best in the game can bring a man to tears.

But stepping into the arena to compete makes you unique.

Being known by Jesus and called by name is worth all the effort, pain, and struggle you have to endure, and he will call you home to be with Him and live forever in the ultimate of the “big leagues” if you’ll only...

Stay the course.
Keep the faith.
Endure.

Now go sell something.
