Give Until It Hurts

Written by Wes Schaeffer | November 22, 2021

From today’s reading...

Looking up, he saw rich people putting their offerings into the treasury; and he noticed a poverty-stricken widow putting in two small coins, and he said, ‘I tell you truly, this poor widow has put in more than any of them; for these have all put in money they could spare, but she in her poverty has put in all she had to live on.’” Luke 21:1-4

How generous are you?

I bet if I asked you this in person, you’d say you were “pretty generous.”

You probably consider yourself kind, loving, and giving, and you’re probably right.

I mean, you don’t kick dogs or rip the wings off of butterflies. You bring some canned goods to the local food pantry this time of year and shop for a kid whose name was written on a star and placed on the Christmas tree at your church or office.

That’s all well and good and appreciated, and you are indeed making the world a better place.

But you can do more.

You can do a lot more.

And you know what the best part of doing more is?

When you give until it hurts, the good you do, the joy you put out into the world, comes back tenfold, which makes you forget all the temporary pain you might have felt when you dug deep.

This Thanksgiving and Christmas season, dig deep and give until it hurts, which is the only way to...

Stay the course.
Keep the faith.
Endure.

Now go sell something.
