The Sweet and Sour Word of God

Written by Wes Schaeffer | November 18, 2022

From today’s reading...

So I took it out of the angel's hand, and I ate it and it tasted sweet as honey, but when I had eaten it my stomach turned sour.” Revelation 10:10

Today’s reading from Revelation 10 ties back to both Ezekiel 2:8-10, Ezekiel 3:1-3, 14, as well as today’s selection from Psalm 119:103.

God’s Word is sweet and nourishing, which is why He offers it to us daily, but understanding its power, meaning, and ramifications of being called to both preach it and live by it is daunting.

I experienced this a bit last night as I was awarded my brown belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu.

While it was exciting and satisfying to be recognized for my work and progress, it was also humbling and troubling to think, “this is a high level…I hope I can live up to it…I hope I can thwart my opponents and represent my instructor well.”

That’s probably what John and Ezekiel were feeling, but God instructs John to “prophesy again” (v11), and He tells Ezekiel, “You are to deliver my words to them whether they listen or not, for they are a tribe of rebels” (2:7).

So chew on God’s Word daily and share what you have been given, even if your hands shake, your voice trembles, and your stomach turns, because this is the only way to...

Stay the course.
Keep the faith.
Endure.

Now go sell something.
