You Are a Child of Freedom

Posted by Wes Schaeffer | October 10, 2022

From today’s reading...

So, brothers, we are the children not of the slave girl but of the freewoman.” Galatians 4:31

Salespeople and entrepreneurs are good representations of all humans. (Yes, salespeople are people, too, thank you very little!) Since 2006 I’ve owned The Sales Whisperer®.

As such, I’ve worked with thousands of salespeople and entrepreneurs from around the world, and the one thing they all have in common is that they get bored easily, which leads them to tinker with and fix what ain’t broken.

It’s almost as if they need their backs against the wall, to be backed into a corner to get their adrenaline flowing and “save the day” with some heroic line or tactic or gambit when the reality is if they would’ve just stuck to the script, the deal would’ve come in with much fewer histrionics, stress, chaos, and profit, which would’ve made life easier, albeit, more predictable and “boring” for everyone.

Alas, ’tis not to be.

Now before you start spouting off about “stupid salespeople” and “reckless entrepreneurs,” keep in mind you do the same thing, but with your life, i.e., your soul.

“Whaaaattt? Meeeeeee?”

Yes, you, BooBoo.

Fyodor Dostoevsky said it much more eloquently: “Shower upon him every earthly blessing, drown him in a sea of happiness, so that nothing but bubbles of bliss can be seen on the surface; give him economic prosperity, such that he should have nothing else to do but sleep, eat cakes and busy himself with the continuation of his species, and even then out of sheer ingratitude, sheer spite, man would play you some nasty trick. He would even risk his cakes and would deliberately desire the most fatal rubbish, the most uneconomical absurdity, simply to introduce into all this positive good sense his fatal fantastic element. It is just his fantastic dreams, his vulgar folly that he will desire to retain, simply in order to prove to himself--as though that were so necessary-- that men still are men and not the keys of a piano, which the laws of nature threaten to control so completely that soon one will be able to desire nothing but by the calendar. And that is not all: even if man really were nothing but a piano-key, even if this were proved to him by natural science and mathematics, even then he would not become reasonable, but would purposely do something perverse out of simple ingratitude, simply to gain his point. And if he does not find means he will contrive destruction and chaos, will contrive sufferings of all sorts, only to gain his point!”

As humans, which include salespeople and entrepreneurs, we’re never satisfied to keep well enough alone.

We must tinker, take apart, examine, and hopefully improve, what ain’t broken, but we’ll do it even when the reward does not exceed the risk, which results in one step forward, and eleven steps back time after time after time.

And when we find ourselves in a rut that we blindly entered and mindlessly dug into a trench, i.e., waking up startled by an alarm clock after too little sleep next to a spouse filled with lukewarm affection and grumble through traffic only to stumble to our tiny cubicle to endure countless meetings with people we don’t like just to collect a paycheck that is too small and parasitically devoured by politicians we despise only to return to the lukewarm home in need of repair and devoid of joy, we want to place blame and say stupid crap like,…

  • “It’s those stupid politicians who ruin everything!”
  • “It’s those greedy CEOs who ruin everything!”
  • “It’s those (people who don’t look like me) who ruin everything!”
  • “It’s those idiots at HQ who ruin everything.”

It’s never your fault.

Nothing is ever your fault.

You are perfection personified.

You are better than sliced bread.

You’re a diamond in the rough.

An undiscovered talent.

A hidden gem that everyone else is just too blind, greedy, stupid, silly, high, and arrogant to recognize. Right?

You’ve been lied to.

The devil has deceived you.

He has made you unappreciative.

He has tempted you to want what is not good.

To exhaust yourself seeking the unobtainable.

He has flipped the script and had you enslave yourself, and you deepen the enslavement with pot, porn, and playoffs.

It doesn’t have to be this way.

All you have to do is remember your heritage.

Remember your inheritance.

Remember your Creator, who wants you to be free, forever, with Him.

All you must do is…

Stay the course.
Keep the faith.
Endure.

Now go sell something.
