From today’s reading...

Now the asses of Saul’s father, Kish, had wandered off.
Kish said to his son Saul, ‘Take one of the servants with you
and go out and hunt for the asses.’”

Yesterday we saw the elders of Israel begging Samuel to appoint a king over them so they could "be like every other nation."

Today we see how Samuel finds the one that is to be king: Saul.

Why Saul?

Well, he's an obedient son. He obeys the fourth Commandment to honor his father. He is thorough and diligent in traveling far and wide to find his father's lost animals. And he seeks wisdom from those wiser and holier than himself.

That's how he crosses paths with Samuel and is anointed by him.

Stay the course.
Keep the faith.
Endure.
